This really hit me by surprise. So much so, it's taken me over 24 hours to process it. Now, the thoughts are getting in the way of me getting my assignment done in the next class, so I thought I'd put them here (at least get it out of my head until I'm done with this week's assignment).
I was chatting with a staff member at my school asking for her help on a student incentive for my classes and I mentioned I was trying very hard to get things in place for the survey that is coming up for my AR. She asked what I was doing and when I told her, her comment was something like "that sounds like a bunch of malarky". I asked her to explain and she asked me if I just thought this up because I had to for my class, or if it was for real. This was a bad week for my school. A record number of fights and students being assigned to our alternative campus for other reasons. When I told her that maybe having the students give some input into the school would give them some ownership, and improve behavior (because we need to do something!), she was more agreeable.
I don't know if I won her over yet, but at least I feel like I won the skirmish. This week is going to be a "tie a knot in the end of the rope and HANG ON!" kind of week. And I'll try real hard to keep a smile on my face while doing it! :-)
Wow,Jeri! You have had quite a week at school, and as a student, yourself. It does sound like it is time (for now) to tie the knot and hang-on. This is usually the hardest time of the school year... you've got Spring Break, tests, tests, and more tests, and increasing amounts of paperwork as we near June. Not to mention, the test is new, more rigorous, and so UNKNOWN!
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like you may have won her over. You didn't ask my opinion, but I would consider really trying to foster a positive relationship with that teacher. If you can win her over, she could be a great spokes-person for you. If not, she may be the exact opposite, and try to bring you down for the duration of your research. Keep up the good fight! I hope this week is better for you.
